About the Foundation

The Cerezales Antonino y Cinia Foundation is a private institution, oriented towards the development of the territory and the transfer of knowledge to society through two lines of action: cultural production and ethno-education.

The Cerezales Antonino y Cinia Foundation [FCAYC] is a cultural institution with a public service vocation.

The project of this institution, complementary and in solidarity with those developed by other agencies at local, regional, state and international level at the service of society, is located in Cerezales del Condado, in the province of León (Spain). From this place, between the fertile plains of the rivers Porma and Curueño, in the foothills of the mountains of León, the reflections, actions and programmes that its team has been articulating since December 2008 originate. FCAYC is a project made possible thanks to the commitment of Antonino Fernández and his family, with roots and lives shared in this neighbourhood. His involvement with culture as a key factor in the cohesion, development and evolution of any society has been accompanied by his personal resources and confidence in the collective contribution that nurtures institutions of this nature.

After two and a half tentative initial years, in mid-2011 FCAYC embarked on a profound exercise of internal reflection that led to the emergence of its structural lines of research: contemporary art and culture, sound and ethno-education. These lines of research were created in accordance with two determining factors. On the one hand, the incorporation of long time frames, coherent with what research implies; and, on the other hand, the development of an open and permanent listening to the territory and the neighbourhoods that compose it, human and more than human, as a way of giving continuity to the local in that which reaches any other scale and condition, be it planetary or even of other orders and magnitude. The methodologies of FCAYC, from that moment on, encourage a permanent hybridisation of the lines of research, unifying any previous hierarchy of some over others and making them permeable to each other. The evolution of this process has led to the constant appearance of new research areas, to aspects such as listening and education becoming part of the day-to-day work of these structural lines, and to their being fully incorporated into them today.
