A5 Vocal Ensemble was formed as a vocal quintet in Seville in June 2014, when it premiered its first concert programme, “Syntagma musicum”. This programme is a chronological reconstruction of pieces by composers of early German Baroque vocal music. Works by Praetorius, Buxtehude and Schütz, among others, form a beautiful amalgamation that we had the honour of presenting in July 2015 at the XXXII Segorbe Choral Festival, to considerable public and critical acclaim. Subsequently, it has been repeated in Ronda (Málaga), Villalcázar de Sirga (Palencia) and San Roque (Cádiz). For our second concert programme, we decided on Claudio Monteverdi’s “Il Primo Libro de Madrigali”, premiered in Seville in January 2016, with the intention of performing Books II, III, IV and V in subsequent programmes; we have already performed these at the San Pedro Nights Festival in Sanlúcar la Mayor (Seville), the Carmina Antiqva Series in Badajoz, and the Lorquí (Murcia) Early Music Festival. The programme “Shakespeare Soundscape” was the Seville quintet’s proposal in June 2016. In January 2017, we premiered Monteverdi’s “Il Secondo Libro de Madrigali a cinque voci”, and “Ave Virgo”, a collection of sacred and secular works for 5 voices by Francisco Guerrero, saw the light in June 2017 and participated in concerts of the “Under the Sign of Murillo” series, prior to the 35th FeMÀS, organised by Seville City Council in 2018. In January 2018, we premiered Monteverdi’s “Il Terzo Libro de Madrigali”, and last June we did the same with “Le Goût Français”, a programme of French Baroque sacred music. Our recent selection of madrigals from the first three books by Monteverdi was performed in 2018 in Seville, Alicante and Madrid to great public and critical success.
