The activity will begin with some basic notions about everything we can observe in the sky: stars, planets, shooting stars, artificial satellites, aeroplanes... We will learn to distinguish some objects from others and how they change their position over the hours, days and years. We will then use a laser to point out the various constellations that can be easily seen in the summer skies and we will learn about their mythological origins. Given
the dates of the observation, we will be able to see a shooting star (Perseids): we will explain its origin and why it is such a striking phenomenon. Throughout the night we will be able to observe and identify various artificial satellites and, with the help of a telescope, we will see the planet Saturn and its rings.
If you have a telescope and want to learn how to use it, sign up for the workshop on the 9th.
