A group of young gunmen rob Wyoming state banks and the Union Pacific mail train. The leader of the gang is the charismatic Butch Cassidy (Newman) and the Sundance Kid (Redford) is his inseparable sidekick. One day, after a robbery, the group disbands. It is then that Butch, Sundance and a young schoolteacher from Denver (Ross) form a trio of romantic outlaws who, on the run from the law, make their way to Bolivia.
