Aurora Arteaga (Voice and compositions)
MIguel Ángel López (Piano and keyboard)
Daniel García Bruno (Drums)
Pablo Navarro (Double Bass)
The members of the quartet are young musicians trained in Spain, the United States and Holland, regulars on the Spanish and European jazz circuit.
They offer imaginative and fresh jazz, while maintaining connections to the jazz tradition and the emotional content of the music.
The quartet started out in Madrid in 2007, on the initiative of the singer and composer Aurora Arteaga. Later, in the search for her own musical language, Aurora took her music to Finland, India and Portugal and settled in the Basque Country and New York. Her compositions find inspiration in her travels, in life situations or in the sound world of cities, such as a walk in the woods or the sound of a New York laundromat.
The voice is the central nucleus of this quartet, with sound colours close to the instrumental and the intention of intervening in the collective sound as one more instrument that is supported by the other three: double bass, drums and piano.
The repertoire, influenced by a wide range of music, includes jazz and Brazilian classics and original compositions, as well as less common genres such as chorinho and Afro-Peruvian songs.
The quartet has taken their music to prominent jazz clubs and to the Madrid Jazz Festival, the Ellas Crean cycle, the Festival Noches de Vino y Jazz and the Vitoria Jazz Festival. They have also played at the Victoria Eugenia Theatre, the Arenal Theatre in Madrid, the Canal Foundation Theatre and the Museo del Mar in Bilbao. During her time in New York, Aurora has taken the quartet and other projects to clubs such as Somethin’ Jazz Club, New York Live Arts, Kitano and The Gallery - Casa Mezcal.
