Em bruto: relações comoventes is the product of a two-year conversation between FCAYC’s Curatorial Department and the Portuguese artist Fernanda Fragateiro, born in Montijo (Portugal), which culminated in a specific project for Cerezales Antonino y Cinia Foundation’s exhibition room and a publication.
Materials Lab, a comprehensive and complex work archive in constant change created by Fernanda Fragateiro on the basis of a Harvard Art Museum’s residency, serves as a catalyst for discussion.
The archive’s several layers of information and contemporary historical factors present fresh readings of today through the pillars that make up Fernanda Fragateiro’s entire body of work – architecture, urbanism, social movements (race, gender), politics, and landscape, among others.
Materials Lab emerges on this occasion as a powerful declaration in the spirit of a shipyard (estaleiro in Portuguese), irrigating the exhibition space with the images, possibilities, and potential relations required to call for the collaborative construction of a renewed present.
