high grade fires is the winning project of the first call (2021) for internships. KNOT/KNOT, jointly promoted by the Cerezales Antonino y Cinia Foundation and the Diputación de León.
It is a project developed by Sara García, focused on the relationships of interdependence, cooperation, and collective rituals that occur between humans and non-humans, within a conceptual framework that starts from the Commensalism. This aspect points towards forms of biological interaction in which one of the participants obtains a benefit, while the other is neither harmed nor benefited by it.
This type of research links with programmes present at FCAYC, such as those relating to ethnobotany, mycology, and lichens, from which FCAYC is currently seeking to promote new multispecies narratives and imaginaries. Through this, it critically examines taxonomies, extinctions, extractivism, and other aspects derived from anthropocentrism, in order to adopt instead a perspective on our presence on the planet based on the idea of the biosphere.
Furthermore, high grade fires, part of a piece with materials and earth gathered in the province of León and it investigates the ways of creating new kinships in relation to the idea of Another. Finally, this residency within the NUDO/KNOT context will allow for questions to be posed regarding the inherent contradictions of the idea of hospitality, which become apparent in the act of welcoming and creating kinship with that which is foreign to us.
It will be developed over a period of 9 months at the Cerezales Antonino and Cinia Foundation, will receive a grant of 6,000 euros, and will have access to the Foundation's human and material technical team.
