After three previous encounters, Pólenes meets again to carry out an experience of botanical modelling in wax, exploring the physical and symbolic properties of this extraordinary material. Since the 19th century, wax has been used by scientists and artists to create models in museums and universities due to its fluidity and malleability, which invites us to rethink our relationship with the environment in a more inclusive way.
This year, we will focus on the reproduction of plants with berries using the ceroplasty technique, learning by doing through our hands, reinforcing the relationship between the scientific and the cultural, the symbolic and the tangible, integrating didactics and art. Based on what Donna Haraway says: «It matters what thoughts think thoughts», we will reflect on the importance of choosing the materials that will build our culture.
We will explore the vibrant colours of berries as an opportunity to apply advanced waxwork techniques. Wax, being reusable and capable of harbouring eternal time, connects us with an understanding of time that escapes the human scale, revealing its magic.
TOUCH - WAX offers a unique experience to explore the beauty and artistic potential of wax, generating a dialogue between the different realms. This workshop is part of the Pólenes 2024 cycle, which explores the interrelationship between bees and plants, inviting us to rethink the concept of kinship from different disciplines and knowledge.
