Crossing Boñar means finding traces of the importance of water in this territory: mills, light factories, fountains, thermal springs. A stone bridge from the 17th century remains as a witness of the importance that the safe passages had and have in the river Porma. A few metres away, several creeks whisper as they flow between the stones, in contrast to the sonorous force of the water that the reservoir regulates kilometres upstream.

The echoes of the water echo across the bridge as if coming from many different places. We follow these water traces back upstream. Voices come to us from the creeks and the spa, whispers reverberating off the walls. We try to decipher the message by paying attention to the small, looking and listening in the corners.

Ainara LeGardon's work is rooted in rock and experimental music, currents that have used all kinds of mechanisms to strain the possibilities of sound. In the 1940s, research began into tape echoes: devices that can generate a sense of time lag by playing, recording and replaying a sound with a certain delay. The repetitive flow of water and wind through the eyes of the bridge leads us to imagine tape echoes, initially designed as elements for imitating the sonority of space, as systems for dialogue with the immaterial.

Under this premise, we find a point under the bridge where the resonance of the water speaks of memory. The clarity of the voices is blurred by the flow of the river. A dance of approaching and receding materialises inaudible whistles. The water and the wind make themselves heard in the proximity of the ear.

Sequence VIII approaches from the subtle to the memory of stone. Tape echoes, cassette recorders, a prepared guitar and, above all, the voice. A voice that seeks ephemeral resonance, the one that speaks looking downstream.

SEQUENCES is a cycle of sound interventions in space. Sequence VIII is a concert specifically designed by Ainara LeGardon to sound in the space. at y with the Old Bridge of Boñar.
