SOUNDS OF SPRING: Margarida Mariño

Margarida Mariño, Violoncello

Margarida Mariño presents in her most personal project an original repertoire for cello and voice, inspired by themes such as ecology, climate change, and human migration. Using effect pedals, voices, loops, and electronics, she manages to create unique textures and complex orchestrations that give rise to a unique style, in which seemingly divergent genres such as ambient, experimental, minimalism, and classical music resonate with a single voice. Since its presentation at WOS Festival, the project has already toured with a positive reception in theatres and venues such as Prinsenkwartier in Delft, Onder aan de Dijk in Rotterdam, Teatro Colón in A Coruña, Teatro Barakaldo Antzokia, and Auditorio Conde Duque in Madrid.

Born in Vigo and a graduate of the Liceu Higher Conservatory in Barcelona, Margarida's career has spanned ensembles such as the Orquestra Ressonnance (Switzerland), La Vía dei Concerti (Italy), and the Galician Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, among others.

Her exploration of the cello's sonic and aesthetic boundaries has led her to experiment with genres where her instrument is not so commonplace, such as the Permanent Seminar of Jazz and Free Improvisation (SPIL). In 2015, the duo Treme was awarded the Música Xove prize for best Galician band. In 2018, she was a soloist with the Teatro Real's production of Pulcinella. She has two albums released with the multi-instrumentalist Fernando Barroso: Silence Lovers Club (2018) and Xograr (2020), with the classical and contemporary music trio Eixos Cromáticos (2020), and with the jazz quintet Límbico (2021).

He has composed and performed original music for film and advertising, most notably the soundtrack for the short film *Puzzle* by Nicolás Ferglez, and Alfonso Rivera's dance performance *Good Luck*.
