The saxophone quartet Synthèse Quartet and the composer Tomás Ocaña are part of the first edition of the JME-FCAYC Residency Programme, the result of the collaboration between Juventudes Musicales de España and the Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia. The five musicians have worked together for a week of artistic residence at the Foundation and will premiere in this concert a work by Tomás Ocaña written expressly within the framework of the collaboration. The concert programme will be completed with works by J. S. Bach, Alfred Desenclos, Jun Nagao and Chris Evan Hass.
Synthèse Quartet was formed in 2017 at the Conservatorio Superior de Salamanca. Initially they were guided by Ángel Soria, Brenno Ambrosini and Marc Oliu. They are currently furthering their studies at the Universität der Künste in Berlin with Artemis Quartett. Their awards include First Prize at the Juventudes Musicales de España Competition, First Prize at the Arnuero International Competition and First Prize at the Léopold Bellan International Competition (Paris).
They have performed in venues such as CentroCentro Palacio de Cibeles, the Auditorio de Zaragoza and the Teatro de la Maestranza. They have toured the city of Gdansk (Poland) and participated in the “XVIII World Saxophone Congress” in Zagreb (Croatia). They are sponsored by brands such as Vandoren France, JLV Sound, Instrumentomania, PuntoRep or Mafer.
Tomas Ocaña He studied Clarinet and Composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Málaga and is currently studying for a Master's Degree in Composition at the HfMDK in Frankfurt (Germany) with a scholarship from the Fundación Málaga. He has been taught by Diana Pérez Custodio and Abel Paúl López de Viñaspre. In 2021 he won First Prize in the III José Andreu Navarro Composition Competition organised by the CSM of Malaga and that same year the First Prize “Xavier Montsalvatge” in the XXXII edition of the Premio Jóvenes Compositores Fundación SGAE-CNDM, thanks to which he is currently the Composer-in-Residence of the Red de Músicas de Juventudes Musicales de España.
