Irma Álvarez-Laviada's project for FCAYC, The space between things, pose a situationin temporal from interventions Site-specific referring to the architecture of the space and the artwork as a whole. A interdependent duality that manifests in the splitting of matter and idea, in a continuous questioning of the very physicality of materials, and where function, rather than being fulfilled, constitutes itself. The physical presence of the elements acts as a catalyst for a work that is yet to appear, or whose disappearance summons an adjacent yet inaccessible place, an almost-present void, a barely-formed absence.
Using media such as installation, sculpture or intervention, the proposal establishes a relationship between the constructive and the architecture of the exhibition space through the use of ephemeral construction materials. A self-contained space that is inserted into the room while simultaneously asserting its radical independence.
Irma Álvarez- Laviada (Gijón, 1978) is a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Vigo. She has been awarded scholarships by Cajastur, the Student Residence of Madrid or the Spanish College in Paris. In 2012, he/she obtained the Scholarship of the Royal Academy of Spain in Rome and in 2014 the Scholarship of the Casa de Velázquez. In 2017, they received one of eight scholarships for artistic projects from the Marcelino Botín Foundation. Between September and January (2017-2018), the French Ministry of Culture (Culturefrance) awarded him a residency grant at the International Centre of Arts from Paris.
His/Her work has been present in numerous group exhibitions such as Dreaming is a form of planning, G. Agustina Ferreyra (Puerto Rico) How to dream differently held at Seoul Art Space (Seoul), Improvisation Round the Corner (Lisbon).
During the year 2018, show the project Reversibility and Utopia awarded a scholarship by the Marcelino Botín Foundation at the Botín Centre in Santander. In 2017, he had a solo exhibition Something to see, something to hide at the RAC Foundation (Pontevedra), and carries out a specific project: The Hejduk Line, in the City of Culture of Galicia.
In 2016, she was invited to participate with the intervention 105/146 in the L21 Gallery in Mallorca and exhibits The dance of the entropic elements, at the Galería Bacelos in Vigo. Solo exhibition Modalities of the visible in the Luis Adelantado Gallery (Valencia) and intervenes in the Chapel of the Barjola Museum in Gijón with an installation titled Aim for the bullseye. In 2015, she undertook a Solo Project at the international fair LISTE in Basel, with the Agustina Ferreyra Gallery.
She is currently preparing two solo exhibitions, one for the County Hall Gallery in London in June and another in August at the Agustina Ferreyra Gallery in Mexico City.
