An informal visit to the Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia [FCAYC] in June 2022 triggers an unexpected encounter between Nicolás Paris (Bogotá, 1977) and the institution's team. The work of this artist addresses the field where experience is constructed through collective learning and cooperation. From that meeting a first dialectical exchange emerged about the learning processes hosted at FCAYC and the methodologies that inspire the artist's work. This exchange, nourished by reading and writing, continues over time once the artist returns to Bogotá. The dialogue grows until it becomes a study group, without predefined formats or commissions.
The team of the Centro de Arte Fundación María José Jove, a cultural institution located in A Coruña, learns of the open conversation between Nicolás and FCAYC, again informally, and raises the possibility - welcomed by both parties - of joining the conversation. The working sessions, every Thursday, are grouped in the respective calendars under the name of third teacher.
third teacher is centred on the specific question of how learning takes place. It uses the figure of the classroom ("classrooms" in Nicolas Paris' vocabulary) as a conceptual and formal environment in which to re-imagine their codes. Each potential "classroom proposes to move fearlessly beyond the limits of an exhibition hall or a discipline. The "learning" proposed by the project approaches this verb as a process, in continuity. A process, then, based on the action of connecting and creating links, and where every element appears in the collective subject that learning implies. This topological and poetic transformation - each "classroom" wonders about what, who, when, how and where - attentive to the multiplicity of places and times that converge when we learn, can be catalysed by pressed earth, apple trees or driven by a seed.
third master at FCAYC headquarters
third master is deployed in FCAYC as a pedagogical strategy to rethink ourselves that attends to the environment -physical, symbolic, relational and sensitive- as an active agent in the learning processes. It happens through different spaces, attitudes, atmospheres and activations in alliance with some of the active programmes -expositive and educational- in which to recognise those third masters that surround us -water, mud, seed, game, bacteria, yeast, worm, eye, or word as well as all their possible links. Their life began some time ago and will continue over the coming seasons until they are definitively integrated into our ways of doing things.
third master at the FMJJ Art Centre
Este salón será un espacio transversal que se conectará con otros proyectos: Mediated School, Root, Moving a seedetc., introducing the cereal as an educational agent in itself, which will allow us to rethink education from patient observation.
From 29 June to 12 October, the third master will be open to the public at FCAYC and FMJJ Art Centre as an exhibition project in which all interested people are invited to actively participate. It will be a space to meet, connect and learn together from shared experience, in a collective construction that celebrates the living and the common.
