Series of thematic visits where we will approach the natural, cultural and ethnographic heritage of the region where Cerezales del Condado is located. We will try to understand the relationship of eco-dependence maintained between humans and nature through different thematic axes: agriculture approached from the ploughing of the land with oxen, the delimitation of the land with live fences or sebes, the conservation of local seeds and food sovereignty and, finally, the ancient infrastructures that support the management of water for the irrigation of farmland.

5 AUGUST

Uniting the oxen

The relationship between the inhabitants of these valleys and the Parda de Montaña breed of cattle has been close. Humans and non-humans have lived together on a close, daily basis, depending on each other for subsistence. In this session we will meet the oxen, the cow and the calf of FCAYC: Rogante, Lindo, Bonita and Pardo, we will see the care tasks that these animals require and the tools that are used to graze them and plough the land. And if they are in good spirits, we will anoint them.

12 AUGUST

Bordering with sebes

Balsa blanca, palera, bramble and hawthorn are some of the plant species used in the construction of sebes or living fences. This vegetal wall, so present in these villages before the land consolidation, delimits boundary plots but it is also a living element of the landscape as it contains a great biological biodiversity. In this session we will visit the sebes of Cerezales del Condado to learn about their production techniques and we will carry out a practical session in which we will collaborate in their conservation.

19 AUGUST

Caring for seeds

The local seed bank is full of stories, each seed holds stories about the places where it has been grown and preserved. This bank has been developed by a small network of caretakers who look after them and take care of their reproduction for their good maintenance. All these stories will be told in this session and then we will practise some of the conservation methods we use in the bank and finally we will make and throw some interesting seed bombs.

26 AUGUST

Opening ditches and harbours

In this session we will investigate the complex and ancient system of irrigation ditches, canals and ports used by the people of Cerezales del Condado to irrigate their land and orchards. We will begin by exploring the main canal that crosses the village of Cerezales and continue with the secondary network of irrigation ditches until we reach the banks of our rivers.
