Once the GEA cycle has started, with the geologist Carmen Ortega, and as a way to complement this training, the Research Group on Geomorphology and Geological Heritage, GEOPAGE, of the University of León, is proposing a programme of activities that will be carried out by Dr Esperanza Fernández-Martínez and Rodrigo Castaño de Luis.
Your objective is to show how to apply these concepts to understand and appreciate the geology of the Central Leonese Mountain Range.
For this, two activities are used, consisting of selecting and organising specific geological concepts following concrete, simple and intuitive guidelines. The results of the group work will enable participants to face the challenge of understanding the geology of their territory and the valuation that experts make of the different places that comprise it.
Friday, 2 June

Workshop: Understanding and appreciating the geology of our region.
In groups, we will develop a quick guide to understanding the Earth, learn what we call geological heritage, and carry out other activities.

Journey through the geology of Alto Porma and Alto Esla
This output has two basic objectives: to put into practice the guidelines for knowing, understanding, and appreciating the geology of our territory that were introduced in the previous session, and to relate the geology of our territory to different ethnographic, historical, cultural, and artistic elements.
This is a tour crossing the high valleys of the Porma and Esla rivers, with stops (static or short walks) at specific locations. During these stops, the observation, understanding, and assessment routines practised the previous afternoon will be put into practice. Furthermore, each stop is related to a non-geological element that shows the extent to which the Earth is integrated into our history as inhabitants of a territory.
