This is the conferenceWelcome to Desmania« by Roberto Rubio Gutiérrez, coordinator Life+ Desmania
The Iberian desman (Galemys pyrenaicus) is an indicator species of the state of conservation of rivers, classified at world level as vulnerable (VU), at national level as a species in danger of extinction in the central system and as vulnerable for the rest of the territory. The Iberian Desman is subject to multiple threats, conditioning its future to urgent measures to improve the state of the habitats in which it is characteristic.
Desmania, a project co-financed by the European Union's Life+ programme, has been launched to recover and conserve the species in the rivers of Castilla y León and Extremadura.
