Orpheus Musicus dedicates this programme to 17th century Italian instrumental music. We look at this repertoire to account for the historical moment when instruments became independent of voices, when compositions began to be written expressly for instruments. In the case of this programme, it represents a new paradigm for violins, after having been exclusively dedicated to accompanying voices in Renaissance polyphony. With the arrival of accompanied monody and the Baroque, a new universe of pieces written for the violin arose, taking advantage of its gestures and the instrument's own ways of transmitting the affections of the music.

Orpheus Musicus, founded by violinist Sergio Suárez in 2019, dedicated to the performance of 17th and 18th century repertoire on original instruments, presents its first album in 2022. Musica Scotica, dedicated to the baroque music of the British Isles.
