Workshop exploring the act of making, materials, construction and politics in the context of rural Spain and the post-recession global economy in the 21st Century.
The workshop focuses on the potentials of an experimental building material derived from its local context. By combining the bio-waste from the local agricultural industry currently utilized for waste-to-energy-electricity in the energy plant in Cerezales del Condado, with the expressive local clay used in traditional construction in this region, an extra-local material can instigate the re-imagining of the future of development and local economies of construction.
This workshop is a dialogue between local and traditional building techniques, contemporary architecture, and experts in digital preservation and restoration–to intervene, experiment, and speculate on the potentials of a local material process, within the climate of mass production, late capitalism, and the anthropogenic environment.
The Workshop will be performed with the support of Fundacion Cerezales Antonino y Cinia, Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation, Estudio Herreros, Factum Arte, and Interrobang, the Curators of the 2019 Oslo Architecture Triennale.
