The FCAYC Curatorial Department, in close collaboration with the other areas of the institution, undertakes research projects with different temporalities and formalisations. In those cases that require it, the exhibition hall is incorporated as another resource through which to activate structural layers of these projects. This space of thought and materialisation, linked to verbs such as create, exhibit or arrange, expands and strains the decantation of these processes into imaginaries, explores the aesthetics they incorporate and analyses the way they are shared in public.
With this starting point, FCAYC's exhibition programme is divided into two complementary research cycles: Context and Out of Field.
The cycle called Context responds to the question of what worlds are perceived from the place where the institution is located, the rural environment of the province of León. This space, in connection with many others and at different scales through the circulation of different materialities and processes, reflects the tensions inherent to an enclave between mountains, valleys and rivers with a historical contact with what we know as the primary sector.
The Context cycle takes the immediate surroundings as its reference point and seeks a relationship that is as involved as possible with its conditions. In no case does it want to stop at a localist, identitarian or territorialist intention, but on the contrary: to observe what surrounds us and, from this, to submit to criticism and, if necessary, also to imagine those aspects of continuity and multiplicity, of some processes in others, of some materials in others and of some times in others as a political and poetic space to inhabit the planet together with everything that forms part of it.
