Abel Jaramillo

Born in 1993 in the town of Medina de las Torres in the province of Badajoz, he is a visual artist with a degree in Fine Arts from the University of Castilla-La Mancha and the University of Lisbon, as well as a master's degree in Contemporary, Technological and Performative Art from the University of the Basque Country.

Jaramillo develops his work around questions linked to the cracks and margins of history, the construction of narratives and the political tensions that are projected onto the everyday. His practice focuses on the frictions produced by bringing into dialogue events and images that reveal historical relations, present conflicts and future speculations. She investigates the construction of history from below and the relationship between narratives, territories, margins and peripheries.

Ha mostrado su trabajo de manera individual en espacios como Sala Europa (Badajoz), Centro Federico García Lorca (Granada), Galería Fran Reus (Palma), Hypercorps (Bruselas, BE), Galería Estrany-de la Mota (Barcelona) y Galería Aldama Fabre (Bilbao). De manera colectiva, ha participado en exposiciones en La Casa Encendida, Centro Centro (Madrid), Galería Ángeles Baños (Badajoz), La Térmica (Málaga), Fabra i Coats, Can Felipa, La Capella (Barcelona), Galería Francesco Pantaleone (Palermo, IT), Centro Cultural Montehermoso (Vitoria), LoPati (Amposta), Bikini Wax Eps (Ciudad de México, México), Fundación Rafael Botí (Córdoba), Centre del Carmen (Valencia) o Casal Solleric (Palma de Mallorca). Además, ha realizado residencias en diversos centros como la Academia de España en Roma (Roma, 2022- 2023), Las Cigarreras (Alicante, 2020), Hangar (Lisboa, 2018), Ruber Contemporanea (Palermo, 2018), L’Estruch (Sabadell, 2018) o Fundación BilbaoArte (Bilbao, 2016) y ha sido beneficiario de premios y becas como Generación 2022 de La Casa Encendida, Premio Fundación Banco Sabadell AES20, FACBA (2019), Beca Open Studio-Comunidad de Madrid (2018), Ayudas Artistas Visuales de Extremadura (2018) o Ayudas Injuve (2017 y 2020), entre otros. También ha impartido talleres y conferencias en la Sala de Arte Joven (Madrid, 2022), en el MEIAC (Badajoz, 2022), Las Cigarreras (Alicante, 2020) o La Casa Encendida (Madrid, 2018).
