AGUSTIN CASTELLANOS
In 1989, when I finished my studies in Art History in Zaragoza and León, I had the opportunity to start working at the Restoration Workshop School in the Historic Centre of León, later converted into the Centro de los Oficios de León, where the exciting world of traditional crafts applied to construction opened up to me. Stone, iron and wood were materials that, skilfully worked by the hands of the master craftsman, gave rise to magnificent, useful and beautiful pieces. Since then, researching and transmitting this know-how to new generations has been my professional objective. I have collaborated in the publication of the practical guides to stonemasonry, artistic forging and stone stereotomy and I design and draw many of the works carried out at the Centre. The recovery of the constructive processes of Spanish carpentry has occupied our attention in recent years and from the Centro de los Oficios we have given numerous courses and built different roof trusses contributing to the recovery of our cultural heritage, a work recognised with the Richard Driehaus Award for the Arts of Construction 2022, in the category of woodwork.
