Chão Maior

Chão Maior is as broad and expansive as its six members. Yaw Tembe, Norberto Lobo, Leonor Arnaut, Ricardo Martins, João Almeida and Yuri Antunes, musicians from different backgrounds and related to the experimental jazz scene in Portugal, come together in this project.

What we found in Drawing Circles, the group's first album, is the perfect balance between musicians who, in a transparent way, build a common space where jazz, rock, folk or kraut constitute a flow in which improvisation and experimentation cohabit.

Recorded at the Convento de São Francisco, in Montemor-o-Novo, this album is a composition made up of fragments that end up becoming circles, as the title suggests. The six songs, all entitled «Círculo» or «Passo», transcribe the dialogues between the different members on a circular canvas through the two trumpets, trombone, vocals, guitar and drums.
