Elena Alonso

Elena Alonso (Madrid, 1981) develops her work primarily through drawing and sculpture, associated with methods and grammars from other disciplines such as architecture, design, and craftsmanship.

From its beginnings, it has approached the practice of drawing as a process of thought to produce a new kind of ambiguous, overwhelming, and at the same time, extremely precise abstraction. In the last decade, its dedication to sculpture has become more prominent, reinforcing and enriching its work with space, atmosphere, and relationships between bodies, through its installations and projects. site-specific.

His constantly reformulating body of work maintains a profound internal coherence. The neatness and meticulousness of his work contrasts with the manual and artisanal quality of his processes and finishes, imbuing them with an unexpected warmth and haptic and emotional richness when closely observed. The tension and balance between opposites; familiarity and strangeness, structural or ornamental, functional or playful, and the frequent allusion to the body, refers to issues related to our affectivity towards our surroundings and the unconscious relationship we establish with codes of visual representation.

She has exhibited individually at Abierto x Obras (Matadero Madrid), at Deposito de Agua-Centro de Arte la Panera (Lleida), at the Museo ABC de Dibujo (Madrid), at the Espacio Valverde Gallery (Madrid) and Fabian Lang Gallery (Zurich), and at the Sala de Arte Joven de la Comunidad de Madrid.
