Juan Matías

Juan Matías (1998) is a young accordionist from Santander. He began his training with Gorka Hermosa and later with Iñaki Alberdi and Miren Iñarga at the Centro Superior de Música del País Vasco, Musikene. He is currently continuing his studies for a Master's Degree in Performance at the same centre with a scholarship from the Yamaha Music Europe Foundation. He has also received classes from prestigious teachers such as Stefan Hussong, Friedrich Lips, Mie Miki, Jeanne-Marie Conquer, Frederic Deschamps, Veli Kujala, and Claudio Jacomucci. 

As a soloist he has collaborated with the AEDEA Chamber Orchestra, the Joven Orquesta Autónoma de Cantabria, the Zumarragako Musika Banda and the MSKN Master Ensemble. He has also been a member of several nationally awarded chamber ensembles, such as the Quinteto +q tango and the Tangoneando ensemble. On the other hand, he has been awarded in several competitions, such as the first prize in the XXXVI Certamen Guipuzcoano de Acordeón, Best Performance in the XIV Concurs Instrumental Sant Anastasi, finalist in the Concurso Internacional de Castelfidardo and the second prize in the 103rd edition of the Concurso Juventudes Musicales de España. 

In his interest in promoting the creation of new music for his instrument, he has premiered solo works and works with different chamber ensembles by contemporary composers such as Tetsuya Yamamoto, Gorka Hermosa, Yolanda Campos, Lina Tonia, José Ramón García López and Paloma Vírseda.
