Olga Benito

Olga Benito was born in Barcelona into a family of musicians in 1991. The granddaughter of the renowned Catalan harpist Rosa Balcells, her interest in the harp became increasingly evident, until, at the age of 6, she began her studies with a former pupil of her grandmother's: Marta Jarne. At the age of 12, she entered the Barcelona Municipal Conservatory of Music and continued her studies with Maria Lluïsa Ibáñez.

She is currently finishing her studies at the Escuela Superior de Música de Barcelona, with Magdalena Barrera. Isabelle Perrin, Remy van Kesteren and Gwyneth Wentink have also been her teachers.

She has been awarded in several editions of the national harp competition ARPAPLUS in the following years: 2006 in Valencia (first prize), 2009 in Seville (first prize and Victor Salvi special prize) and 2010 in Barcelona (second prize). She also participated in the eighth (2009), ninth (2010) and tenth (2011) Music Performance Awards, in Girona, obtaining an honourable mention the first year and first prize the following two years.

After completing her intermediate studies, she was awarded the Prize of Honour by the Municipal Conservatory of Music of Barcelona. Recently, she won second prize in the Permanent Competition of Juventudes Musicales de España, held in Malaga in November 2013.

He has participated in several meetings of the Jove Orquestra Nacional de Catalunya (of which he is currently the principal harpist), as well as the Jove Orquestra Nacional de España.

She was selected in 2013 to participate in the Mahler Chamber Orchestra Academy 2013, conducted by Pablo Heras Casado and playing in the German cities of Dortmund, Essen and Köln. After finishing her intermediate studies, and at the request of the conductor Albert Argudo, she has continued to collaborate with the Orquesta del Conservatorio de Barcelona.
