Created by Josetxu Obregón while he was living in Holland, La Ritirata takes its name from
name of the last movement of the famous quintet that Luigi Boccherini composed in Madrid,
entitled La Musica Notturna delle strade di Madrid.
They regularly perform at festivals and venues of great prestige, such as Musika-Música (la Folle Journée) at the Euskalduna Palace in Bilbao, the National Theatre in Beijing, the Early Music Festival of the CNART in Mexico City, the Closing Ceremony of the Spanish Presidency of the EU in Tokyo, CNMB Versailles; as well as a large number of Spanish festivals such as those of Jaca, Seville, Lekeitio, Madrid, Cáceres, Motril, Ordizia, Palencia, Olivares, etc.
Recently awarded in Sitges, and being the only Spanish group selected at the level
European for the first Grand Audition of REMA 2010 (European Early Music Network), La Ritirata has recorded for the labels Verso, Arsis and Columna Música to great critical acclaim and has been awarded the "Recommended CD Compact" label.
All this from the hand of its artistic director, Josetxu Obregón, who has focused on Early Music with the aim of showing the most demanding audiences how interpretation, together with knowledge of the instruments and aesthetic criteria that each composer experienced in his time, is undoubtedly the key to the musical future of our society.
