The Foundation's host village, Cerezales del Condado, is organising for the second year a meeting for the dissemination and maintenance of economies and networks to promote rural livelihoods.
The meeting will take place on 19, 20 and 21 May and will bring together more than 10 local breeds, local products, artisans, as well as enthusiasts and professionals linked to the Carea leonés breed of dog.
Following the success of the first edition The village is repeating and improving a weekend programme that aims to promote knowledge and economic networks to support rural livelihoods.
The programmed activities range from professional days of shepherd dog handling and skills, to free activities for the general public such as a market of local products and artisans, exhibitions of Leonese wrestling and local animal breeds (the Hispano-Breton horse, the Merino sheep, the Parda de Montaña or the Zamorano-Leonese donkey), a tasting of migas de pastor, a popular meal and a performance by the Leonese folk group Tarna.
The celebration also aims to recognise the work of the communal shepherds who work with Carea dogs. This year this honour will go to Mr. Arcadio Rodríguez Álvarez, shepherd of vecera for more than 60 years in Villamayor del Condado, and the event will take place on Sunday.
Carea 17 is organised by the Junta Vecinal of the village of Cerezales with the collaboration of the Sociedad Canina Leonesa, the Town Council of Vegas del Condado, the Town Council of Posada de Valdeón, the Town Council of Gradefes and the Cerezales Antonino y Cinia Foundation.
You can follow the conference on their facebook page Carea - A fold of local knowledge, breeds and products and with the hashtag #Carea17.
