«Songs of Erosion» opens the music series “Sounds of Spring 2025” at FCAYC

The Fundación Cerezales Antonino y Cinia (FCAYC) presents a new edition of the cycle «Sonidos de Primavera», which will take place during the months of March and April at its headquarters in Cerezales del Condado, León. This annual cycle reaffirms the Foundation's commitment to the dissemination of contemporary music and culture in order to promote access to culture in rural areas.

The proposal for this year 2025 is articulated around three concerts that will explore diverse musics that share ways of relating to each other. This edition will open this Saturday 29 March at 18:30 with a contemporary approach, Songs of Erosion, a project by the artists Clara Lévy, Clara de Asís and Víctor Guaita arising from a contemporary reading of the Cantigas de Santa María (13th century) through the lens of erosion.

The concert, which will take place at the exhibition space An unbridgeable gap, does not pretend to be a historicist interpretation of the medieval songbook, but rather the musicians take the manuscript as an archaeological artefact of the past. To navigate its breadth and complexity, they devise a series of instructions inspired by contemporary music compositional techniques and geological processes linked to erosion, allowing them to manipulate the different materials of the Cantigas.

Each performance will become a laboratory where a selection of these instructions are presented in a repetitive, almost exhausting way, glimpsing through the debris and sediments of time what remains of these 800-year-old songs.

All activities are free of charge, although some require prior registration due to limited capacity. Invitations will be available on the Foundation's website (fcayc.org) from the Monday before each event, at 10:00 am. Those interested are advised to reserve their places in advance to guarantee their attendance.

On sounds of Spring

Sounds of spring is a chamber music cycle that takes place in the territory where FCAYC is located. Along with Sonidos de invierno, it is one of the oldest cycles of the Foundation whose ultimate aim is to promote access to culture in rural areas through music.

The cycle recovers the idea that chamber music is defined by an idea of space and relationship, not style. Sonidos de primavera offers a space for proposals that investigate and expand the limits of the music that can be heard in a medium-sized hall, in a chamber. It proposes a space of proximity that invites us to listen in proximity, with artists and groups that come from different musical traditions. The concerts of the cycle take place in different chamber halls that include the equipment of FCAYC and some churches of the territory.

About Clara Lévy
Clara Lévy is a French violinist and composer, whose career is mainly focused on what is often called «new music». For some years now, she has been developing solo projects, questioning the conditions of listening and the dramaturgy of the concert (Outre- Nuit), or the sometimes blurred boundaries between performance and composition (13 Visions).

In addition to his own projects, he regularly collaborates with European ensembles such as ONCEIM (Paris), Ictus (Brussels), Hanatsu Miroir (Strasbourg). He also maintains close collaborations with various musicians such as Alexis Degrenier, Stéphane Clor, Victor Guaita Igual, Clara de Asis, Eva-Maria Houben...

About Clare of Assisi
Clara de Asís (1988, Cádiz, Spain) explores the relationships between sound, space and the praxis of attention, contemplating the perceptual experience as an elastic phenomenon. She uses analogue electronics and acoustic synthesis together with different combinations of found objects and traditional instrumentation. His compositions juxtapose structural precision with areas of indeterminacy, derived from his interest in experimental tuning and autogenetic systems.

In addition to her solo practice, Clara de Asís has created a wide variety of collaborative works with other artists, including multidisciplinary projects in film and dance. She has performed extensively in Europe, the United States and South America, and has been an artist in residence at venues such as Experimental Sound Studio (Chicago), Tsonami (Valparaíso), Q-O2 (Brussels) and EMS (Stockholm), among others.About Víctor GuaitaEqual
Victor Guaita Igual focuses on the performance of contemporary music and other sound explorations. After obtaining a master's degree in viola with Paul de Clerck in Brussels and another in string quartet with Oliver Wille in Hannover, he works regularly with ensembles such as Ensemble Modern, Ictus or Klangforum. He also develops his own solo projects or in collaboration with other artists such as Lukas de Clerck, Clara Lévy, dejana sekulić, Carlo Sampaolesi, Jacob Storer or Tom Hallet.
