Contribución a la lista de lecturas sobre la ruina

Declaración de ruina se presenta como un espacio de lectura en este instante. Los libros que están sobre la mesa y cuya lectura proponemos son una muestra del núcleo donde se genera nuestro trabajo en mayor medida que un recurso complementario a una exposición. No constituyen una lista cerrada, crecerá, en la misma medida que “Declaración de ruina” es trabajo abierto y en curso. No presenta una tesis definitiva, sino que comienza aquí, sobre esta mesa. Las hipótesis están aún por elaborar. Queda una exigente tarea por delante para desbastar aquello que en este momento apenas constituyen intuiciones.

Nos interesa la ruina. Desde todo ángulo. Desde el medio rural, en el que se encuentran estas escuelas, o desde la ciudad, de donde procede con frecuencia nuestro público. Descrita por artistas, narrada en los libros o diseccionada por la filosofía. Hoy, con un martilleo de fondo sobre las ruina que habremos de soportar, que nos persigue con ansiedad y noticias sombrías, puede ser útil el ejercicio de pensar sobre ella y buscar sus medidas: pasadas, presentes y futuras.

“El paisaje es memoria”, sostiene Julio Llamazares en El río del olvido. Ahí arrancamos. A escasa distancia de estos libros. Entre ese paisaje citado se desmigajan tantos restos destruidos de un pasado industrial lustroso que no resistirían un único volumen en un catálogo. Lo material es inmediato. El paisaje es memoria, sí, memoria social, política, económica, cultural, artística y la fusión de todas ellas. Historias entrelazadas. Por eso, para sobreponernos a la inmediatez, necesitamos estas lecturas -y muchas otras-, para corregir la distancia y el tiempo, para contrastar declives y reinvenciones, para madurar cualquier juicio.

“Declaration of ruin” is currently presented as a reading space. The suggested books on the table are a sample of the core where our work is generated and not only a supplementary resource for the exhibition. The list is not closed; it will grow, in the same level, as “Declaration of ruin” is an open work on progress. It is not a final thesis, but a beginning. The hypotheses are not formulated yet. We have a demanding work ahead to refine aspects that nowadays are barely intuitions.

We are interested in the ruin. From every point of view. From the rural area this school is located in, or from the city, where our public often come from. Described by artists, narrated on books or analyzed by philosophy. Today, with this background hammering about the ruin, which we will have to put up with, which is chasing us with anxiety and dismal news, it could be helpful the exercise of thinking about it and discover its dimensions: past, present and future.

“Landscape is memory” as Julio Llamazares maintains in El río del olvido. This is where we start. A short distance from these books. Among the aforementioned landscape, so many destroyed remains of a shiny industrial past are crumbled that they would not resist to be a single volume in a catalog. The tangible is immediate. Landscape is memory, right: social, politic, economic, cultural, artistic memory and the merge of all types of it. Intertwined histories. Therefore, in order to overcome immediacy, we need these readings, and many others, to mend the distance and time, to study its declines and its reinventions, to think through any judgment.
